Avi Haviv
Music has taken singer-guitarist Avi all over the world. He studied jazz at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, funk in the London scene of the late 70’s, and classical guitar with a master in Tel Aviv. He’s played classic rock on the Australian touring circuit, dazzled audiences in Asia with contemporary hits, and once even played traditional music with a tribe of former headhunters deep in the rainforests of Borneo.
This showman’s distinctive style and musical mastery combine with an enormous repertoire to deliver the perfect entertainment for virtually any setting. No matter what the venue or occasion, a performance by Avi makes it memorable!

Versatile Veteran
Consider veteran musician Avi Haviv a citizen of the world. The holder of three passports, he was born in Jaffa, where he began studying classical guitar as a child prodigy, under a Master who studied with Segovia. He was gigging professionally by the age of 14 (forbidden to leave the stage during breaks because he was not old enough to be in the clubs he was playing). As a very young adult, Avi relocated to London for several years, absorbing the culture and musical styles of the funky metropolis in the late 1970’s. A move across the pond came when he was accepted into Los Angeles’ Guitar Institute of Technology. There he studied jazz under greats including Joe Pass and Larry Carlton.
Upon graduation Avi relocated yet again, to the thriving Australian music scene. He was soon ensconced on the touring circuit, playing 300+ shows a year as part of the acoustic duo DNA Expose with Kiwi celeb Darryl Lovegrove. The twosome appeared live on Good Morning Australia (the Aussie version of Good Morning America) some half dozen times.
In the late 90’s, singer Anna Maria LaSpina invited Avi to join her for a three month duo engagement in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia held life-changing events for both. While there, Anna got a call to join rising sensation Australian band Savage Garden on their first international tour and went from her duo with Avi to sold-out stadiums of screaming fans. Avi met an American anthropologist on a Fulbright out of UC Berkeley and wound up staying on,
shifting from the modern capitol city of Kuala Lumpur to anthropological research sites in the depths of the Borneo rainforests and impromptu performances with tribes of former Iban headhunters (yes, really!)
Avi and his anthropologist wed and returned to the States. They settled in the Pacific Northwest, where they now reside happily with their son, two dogs, and a flock of chickens. Globetrotting Avi currently delights audiences at local venues, functions and private events in and around Portland and Southwest Washington. He plays several residencies including The Bistro in Longview and Tommy O’s in downtown Vancouver. Catch him if you can!
